CARLSBAD CAVERNS, NEW MEXICO, USA This magnificent place has taken 4 to 6 million years to form and is more beautiful than we could ever imagine.  We chose to hike 2 kilometers (1.25 miles) down to the Big Room, which is 230 meters (750 feet) below ground. The trail in the Big Room is another 2 kilometers (1.25 miles) long.  DEVIL'S SPRING POOL  This cave is much bigger and deeper than we thought.  WHALES MOUTH   The tiny people on the trail to the left show how large the limestone formations are.  These stairs were built by the early explorer Jim White and his team.  SPONGE WORK  BIG ROOM. The trail here is 2 kilometers (1.25 miles) long. This is a huge cave!      GIANT DOME, HALL OF GIANTS. This limestone formation is 19 meter (62 feet) high.   TEMPLE OF THE SUN
