PALAWAN, PHILIPPINES
This page covers three of the most beautiful and famous travel destinations in the Philippines - CORON, EL NIDO, and PUERTO PRINCESA SUBTERRANEAN RIVER - all are in Palawan Province.
CORON - TWIN LAGOON
This region is best known for its dramatic limestone rock formations.
The first lagoon is where all the boats parked.
To enter the second lagoon, we swam through this small opening.
The second lagoon is for snorkeling.
The water is absolutely crystal clear.
CORON - SIETE PECADOS
Siete Pecados is a snorkel site.
Clown fish are my favorite, and there were plenty of them here!
CORON - KAYANGAN LAKE
The scenery at Kayangan Lake is breathtaking!
CORON - PASS ISLAND
Pass Island is a tiny island famous for snorkeling. We had lunch first then went diving.
Coral Garden
EL NIDO - FISHING VILLEGE
This was the fishing village where we boarded the boat to the resort.
EL NIDO - MINILOC RESORT
Miniloc is a gorgeous beach resort framed by limestone cliffs.
Many of us stayed in huts over the crystal-clear lagoon. The sea was calm, and the Christmas decorations added a little more sparkles to the place.
Early morning, we kayaked from Miniloc to a...
... small secluded beach nearby.
Miniloc beach has a great view! Majority of the visitors we encountered were Europeans!
Those who love tropical fish won't be disappointed here.
Having a waterproof Point & Shoot was perfect on an island-hopping vacation full of water and weather activities.
EL NIDO - ENTALULA ISLAND
On the island of Entalula, we had this beautiful beach all to ourselves for the entire afternoon.
EL NIDO - MINILOC HIDDEN LAGOON
On the opposite side of Miniloc Island from the resort, we snorkeled and kayaked in a hidden lagoon surrounded by cliffs, accessible only through an opening barely large enough for a person on a kayak.
EL NIDO - PANGULASIAN ISLAND
Early next morning, we arrived at Pangulasian Island for a hike and breakfast.
After an exhausting steep climb to the peak of Pangulasian Island, we were treated to a spectacular 360-degree view of the 45 islands and islets here. Miniloc Resort is visible in the middle of the picture.
There are quite a few limestone islets in El Nido. These two are right in front of Miniloc Resort.
EL NIDO - CUDUGNON CAVE
On Palawan Island, climbing through a tiny hole on the side of this rock, we explored Cudugnon Cave.
Needless to say we had a blast here and will definitely visit the resort again in the future. Finding a place more beautiful than El Nido won't be easy.
We flew back to Manila in a small plane.
PUERTO PRINCESA SUBTERRANEAN RIVER NATIONAL PARK, PALAWAN, PHILIPPINES
With 8.2 kilometers accessible by boat, this is the world's longest navigable underground river.
Twenty-six of us arrived by boat at this beautiful beach beside a limestone cliff.
More than half a dozen Monitor Lizards about 1.5 meters (5 feet) in length greeted us inside the rainforest.
They were not shy at all as one even licked (or smelled) my daughter's leg.
The entrance appeared deceptively small from the boat dock until we got closer.
Inside, the river winds through many large chambers containing fascinating rock formations. The largest cavern we entered was said to be about 100 meters wide and 60 meters high.
We saw countless bats hanging upside down from the ceiling of the river cave. The flash caught one flying at the upper left-hand corner.
Water dripped down continuously from these giant stalactites onto us so we all got a little wet.
These pictures don't do justice to the grandeur of this underground river since many caverns were too large to be photographed effectively with the build-in flash. One must experience it to fully appreciate the stunning beauty of the environment.
This photo of us exiting the cave shows the size of the river entrance.
